The Automobile in the Garden
Barbara McDonnell photographs the suburban and exurban landscape with a wooden field view camera, a banquet camera, invented in the 19th c for photographing large groups of people assembled around a table. At 7” by 17” the camera provides a wide view that makes it ideal for photographing landscapes. Juxtaposing small elements of nature within the built environment the photographs invite a long look at places often seen but not truly noticed.
